About unlocking PDFs

Password prompts get old fast on files you open daily — bank statements, salary slips, insurance documents — and protected files also refuse to merge, split or compress. This tool removes the password from a PDF you can already open: enter the current password once, and download a copy that opens freely. Decryption runs locally via the open-source qpdf engine; the file and password never touch a server.

How to remove a PDF password

  1. Add the protected PDF.
  2. Type the password that currently opens it (some files with only printing/copying restrictions unlock with an empty password — try leaving it blank).
  3. Press Remove password and download the unlocked copy.

Frequently asked questions

Can this crack a password I don't know?

No. It removes protection using the correct password that you enter — it cannot and does not bypass unknown passwords. It's for files you legitimately own or are authorized to unlock.

The PDF opens without a password but won't let me print or copy — can this help?

Yes, usually. Such files have an owner password with restrictions only. Try unlocking with the password field left blank; qpdf can typically produce an unrestricted copy.

Is it safe for sensitive documents like bank statements?

Yes — decryption runs entirely on your device. Neither the file nor the password is ever transmitted anywhere.
